Claudia harks from a pretty town in the very center of Germany named Hannover. Hannover is the capitol of both region Hannover as well as the german state of Lower Saxony/Niedersachsen. It is the proud home of the Hannoverian Kings of both Lower Saxony and Great Britain. Unfortunately, the central location that led to it's development as a rail nexus for the north and south rail lines of Germany also ensured it's near total destruction in World War II. The intersection of railways made the city a strategic target over the course of World War II, leading to the extensive Allied bombing campaign that caused the almost wholesale destruction of most of the historic buildings in the city.

The city has reinvented itself in the post-war period as the main convention city or Messestadt of Germany. It is the location of the annual CEBIT computer show, the largest technology convention in the world. There is even a folksong about Hannover that talks about an "uncle Bill from the USA" that went to a Messe in Hannover.

Being a large capitol city means that Hannover has a wide range of professional sports teams. These teams include first bundesliga soccer team Hannover 96 and first bundesliga ice hockey team the Hannover Scorpions. In addition to sports, Hannover offers a large cultural life that has birthed such successful musical acts as the Scorpions, Terry Hoax and Fury in the Slaughterhouse. Other German artists that you might want to check out are Phillip Boa, die Aerzte, die Toten Hosen and Rammstein.

In addition to popular cultural, Hannover has much to offer the more sedate cultural connoisseur. Among the cultural features is a large collection of public art (including art by Niki de Saint Phalle), the Royal Hannoverian Gardens, the State Opera and the extensive summer theater season.
